Talley
I do enjoy rheumatology. I just wish I could deliver the message to the rheumatologists that attending clinics is not a waste of time. Dr. B always feel that I am obligated to come to the clinics, and not because I wanted to. And that is not true. Attending clinics is good, because it DOES help with my studies. I could remember better when I have seen a patient in real life with a certain condition rather than relying on the textbook images. Anyways, it's very nice of him to give the freedom of whether to attend his clinics or not.
After a long day of clinics, I sat with the registrar and requested him to go through back, hip and shoulder examinations with me. Within a few minutes, Dr. B joined us. So the registrar did a good job, explaining into details on the techniques etc etc.
And Dr. B was like "Ernie, you don't have to know too detail about the examinations. For example, most rheumatologists don't even do apprehension test on the shoulder routinely, even though they really should (roll eyes). How did you even ever heard of the test?"
Before I could say that it was for completion sake, and it's for my OSCE later on, my reg said "It's in Talley" (Talley is one of our medical textbooks).
"F**k Talley"
He still teaches me how to do the apprehension test btw. Even though he cursed Talley for it. Lols.
I have been searching for a specialty quite desperately actually. Every doctor that I encounter will ask me that question. And I am sick of answering "I am not sure yet". I think rheumatology is a good one to consider. Good lifestyle, good relationship with the patients and I do value continuity of care.
We'll see how my life pans out. Wish me luck.
