Hope

Hope is a very tricky thing. One could think of it as a drive, a push to do something in the light of obtaining something. For example, in the hope of passing an exam, one would study hard. Or, if a loved one is ill, we would pray, hard, hoping that he/she will recover as soon as possible. We hope. A common word we use almost every day, yet we didn't realize how big the real meaning is.

On the other hand, hope could be a malicious disease, that creeps under your skin. It crushes you when we put it too high up. It's merciless, heartless. A mum who hopes for her son to survive a war somewhere in Afghanistan for example, and when the news of her son death reached her, the first thing her hope does to her is; it crushes her. Shattered.

So I hoped. And hoped. And hoped. I can't even see the ground beneath me anymore. I know I'm gonna be crushed one day. I anxiously waited for that moment, I wanna come down, but I just can't. Do you know why? Because it wasn't me that climbed this high, it was you. You put me at such a height then you just left.

  1. Well I believed that hope works both ways; it may crush you, but it may also liberate you. and when you feeling down and helpless, sometimes hope is all you got.

    1. True, and it's good when things turn out the way you've hoped for. Personally, I would prefer to not have hope at all, saving myself from the disappointment later on. But whether I like it or not, feeling hopeful is a reflex. It's not something that you could control, really.
